The pair produced incredible dance routines that matched her stylish moves with his amazing choreography, and received perfect scores for their last three routines in the finals. When host Tom Bergeron and co-host Erin Andrews announced the winners’ names, the second-place couple, Amy Purdy and Derek Hough, were applauding as loudly as many others. Finishing third were Candace Cameron-Bure and Mark Ballas. The finals this season began with an hourlong special, “The Road to the Finals,” that included many scenes with the Top Three pairs that had previously been seen, spiced with Twitter notes to the dancers from fans. For regular viewers, it was a bit boring when the big finale was anticipated.
The actual finale, however, was outstanding mix of entertainment and dancing, dancing, dancing, It would seem the producers listened to complaints from those who wanted dancing on a dance show, Amazing, Each of the three finalists had to do a 24-hour fusion dance that mixed two different styles, Amy and Derek performed an Argentine tango/cha cha, Candace and Mark danced a samba/quickstep, and Meryl and Maks performed a foxtrot/cha cha, While Candace and Mark received triple 9s for 27, the other two pairs each received perfect scores, But Erin Andrews had the line of the night: “24-hour fusion challenge, which ballet shoes personalized quilted children's backpack, monogram, preschool backpack, toddler backpack, diaper bag sounds like a deodorant.” I’m so glad that the producers hired Erin as co-host this season..
One feature was the encore of one Monday-night freestyle dance, as determined by Twitter votes. The overwhelming winner was the martial arts freestyle by James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd. It was especially satisfying since the couple was eliminated one night short of the finale. Each of the season’s celebrities appeared to some extent, and several took part in the night’s dance routines. One favorite was the dance by Charlie White and Sharna Burgess during Disney week. In that routine, Charlie dropped a prop cane, which brought his score down. Determined to do the dance to perfection, he held on to his cane … but dropped an umbrella, instead.
Performers included Amber Riley, Season 17 champ with Derek Hough, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande, who had everyone in the hall dancing, and Christina Perri, And as the show came back from commercial at one point, Meryl and Charlie, gold-medal partner on ice, performed a short contemporary dance that showed off their athleticism and grace, No DWTS show is without its surprises, and head judge Len Goodman supplied tonight’s stunner, As he gave Meryl and Maks his opinions of their fusion dance, he said, “I don’t know if it’s true but this may be my last season and if it is, I ballet shoes personalized quilted children's backpack, monogram, preschool backpack, toddler backpack, diaper bag couldn’t wish for a better dance to watch to finish up with, You two are great.”..
