“Into the Woods” is the multi-Tony Award musical written by Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) and James Lapine (book), which blends the plots of several of the famous fables by the German folklorists, the Brothers Grimm. In this fractured fairytale, a childless baker and his wife lead the audience into the woods. They have been cursed by a neighboring witch and their goal is to break that curse. But to do so, they must find a “cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, hair as yellow as corn and a slipper pure as gold.” Along the way the baker and his wife will meet characters right out of the pages of: “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Rapunzel” and other well-known tales. “Into the Woods, Jr.” is the first act of the Sondheim/Lupine musical. It was designed especially by its authors for young performers and their audiences.
Professional scenic designer Kirsten Roysten designed and built the magical set with an extraordinary storybook theme that bridal pink flats womens custom hot pink glittered ballet shoes w/pink shimmer bottoms *free u.s. shipping* jco.customs by kitty runs from the orchestra, “seeming to be pasted into pages of a book,” to the trees and vines that encircle the stage and wind up around the proscenium, And on her set such characters we’ll meet, including: Cinderella (Jillian Abaya) and Cinderella’s Sisters (Ali Squillace and Sophie Green), Little Red Riding Hood (Margie Lie), Rapunzel (Svea Listman), The Princes (Hank Lie and Daniel Abad), Jack (Miranda Steinberg), Jack’s Mother (Julia Hurley), Milky White, the ill-fated Cow (Noelle Hurley), and of course Baker (Ted Keil) and Baker’s Wife (Hope Nelson)..
And there are other characters we’ll meet as well: Granny (Carney Morrow), Mysterious Man (Iain Langlands), Narrator (Mary Mullen), Wicked Witch (Alyssa Poon), Wolf (Sophia Edwards), Steward (Blaise Winterhalter) and more of Cinderella’s “odd” family — Mother (Avery Northrop), Father (Daniel Peschard) and Stepmother (Marissa Gimbal). Throughout this wonderful tale, four wood sprites (Trea Dipkin, Cole Sisser, Adrian Bevington and Maddie Sutton), weave their way through the story with movement and dance. They also facilitate the set changes. “Into the Woods, Jr.” is a cast of 25 and the performers range in age from 10 to 18. Word on the street is the costumes designed and created by Sharon Martinez and Adriana Martinez, with the assistance of apprentice designer Charlotte Burns, are fantastical.
SSPA’s presentation of “Into the Woods, Jr.” is directed by Omar Hasrouni, with musical direction by Diana Lee and choregraphy by Raul Avina, SSPA alum Nik Robalino, who now works full-time as a theater lighting designer in New York, is flying in to “light” this show, The Spindrift School of Performing Arts is run by artists that are at the top of their bridal pink flats womens custom hot pink glittered ballet shoes w/pink shimmer bottoms *free u.s. shipping* jco.customs by kitty field and is attended by students who dedicate their time to learning the art that they love, Expect wonder, Dates: June 12 through June 15, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m, Saturday and Sunday matinees, 2 p.m..
Here are five other summer film comedies that vastly exceeded expectations. “Caddyshack”: Bill Murray chasing after a destructive gopher at an exclusive golf club. Rodney Dangerfield dropping one put-down after another, after another. A peppy Kenny Loggins song that burrows like a tick into your subconscious. Director Harold Ramis took these disparate parts and pieced together a 1980 classic that remains as evergreen as AstroTurf. “Tropic Thunder”: The inspired opening segment is enough to recommend this rambunctious 2008 mood booster about a film crew becoming involved in actual combat. The biggest surprise? A nearly indistinguishable Tom Cruise doing some bizarre dance moves.
“The Hangover”: The premise of this 2009 flick is as tired as an Adam Sandler comedy; a bachelor party in Las Vegas spins wildly out of control, Yawn, But Todd Phillips’ first entry in his bad-boy trilogy (the ensuing two chapters were atrocious) defied the odds with an escalating punch-drunk series of hilarious events and a game cast that included Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, Mike Tyson, even a tiger, “Ted”: Seth MacFarlane tends to ramble on, and this potty-mouthed teddy bridal pink flats womens custom hot pink glittered ballet shoes w/pink shimmer bottoms *free u.s. shipping* jco.customs by kitty bear movie proves that, But even though some jokes go splat, there are moments that will have you laughing uncontrollably, And, oddly enough, this bit of 2012 rudeness co-starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis is sometimes heartwarming..
