Sanders, 18, who has been dancing ballet since she was 3 years old, was a student at Irvington High School for two years before she decided to switch to COIL so she can pursue her dream of dancing professionally. “I wanted to devote more time and energy to dancing … the high school homework and taking advanced classes and dancing every day became too much,” Sanders said. “In the summer before junior year I went to Denmark for a ballet intensive, that is when I decided that I wanted to pursue ballet as a profession and I wanted to dance more … so my mom and I looked into COIL and everything just fell into place and I ended up taking advanced placement courses through Stanford University Online High School.”.

Sanders has danced for a minimum of three hours a day since fifth grade, She has a rigorous home, school and dance schedule, When school was in session she said she normally started her day by walking to Washington High School at 8 a.m, for calculus, then walking home and working on her other classes until ballet classes started at 5 or 6 p.m, Those classes ran until 9 or 10 p.m, pink crochet baby booties, ballerina shoe baby shower ballet slipper newborn bootees gift box photo prop first moccasins wedding Depending on the day, Sanders said she might have more homework to do afterward, Yet she still found time to return to her fifth- and sixth-grade teacher’s classroom to work with the students in literature circles to encourage and engage their reading..

Sanders, who graduated with a grade point average of 3.8, will advance to the University of Cincinnati in Ohio to study ballet in a conservatory setting. She was awarded the Jason Park Scholarship, started by the parents of a former COIL student who died in a tragic car accident, and received $1,000 for herself and $1,000 for the organization of her choice. She donated the money to Jordan, much to the teacher’s surprise. Jordan plans to use her funds to purchase a book binding machine and supplies to support her literature circles.

“Teaching is the kind pink crochet baby booties, ballerina shoe baby shower ballet slipper newborn bootees gift box photo prop first moccasins wedding of the career that has been interesting to me as a back up to ballet, so I thought it would be good to work in a classroom with kids,” Sanders said, She said the highlights of her high school experience were getting to dance as the sugar plum fairy in Fremont’s production of “The Nutcracker” in December 2013 and then dancing as the title character, Gisele, in May 2012, She said she is really excited to take her dancing to the next level while getting her bachelor’s degree in Cincinnati..

“In high school, school came first and ballet was something extra, but ballet will be my school so I am really excited to pursue it more seriously.”. She is one of 18 students selected for the freshman class, after auditioning with 100 hopefuls. She was also accepted to Butler University, University of Utah, and the North Carolina School of the Arts for their ballet programs. In addition, she was accepted to Swarthmore College, University of Northern Carolina, the universities of California at Davis, Santa Barbara and Irvine; and was waitlisted at Stanford University.

Sanders went with Cincinnati because of their conservatory pink crochet baby booties, ballerina shoe baby shower ballet slipper newborn bootees gift box photo prop first moccasins wedding of music, which she says offered the best blended conservatory style of dance training and academics, “It’s a training program for ballet; you take ballet classes that teach you to expand your dancing ability, A lot of dancers go into companies straight out of high school, so college dance programs are kind of the same thing with more academic opportunities, It is a way to get further training,” she said, “I thought it was best for me because I felt like I wouldn’t be able to get into a company right away, and I am fairly academically inclined so I didn’t want to throw that away.”..
