LONDON (Reuters) - A British trade union called on Uber [UBER.UL] drivers to strike in London, Birmingham and Nottingham on Tuesday for 24 hours by not signing into the app, in a push for higher fares and more working rights. Uber has around 60,000 drivers in Britain and earlier this year won back its right to operate in London after it was stripped of its license by the city’s regulator. The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) expects hundreds of drivers at least to participate in the industrial action from 1200 GMT (1300 BST) on Tuesday by not signing into the app. Protests are also planned outside Uber’s offices.

Uber drivers are not obliged to work particular hours by the firm and stainless steel striped onyx cufflinks choose when to sign in and out of the app, The Silicon Valley-based company said it had improved its offering to drivers in recent months, “We’ve introduced dozens of new features, including sickness, injury, maternity and paternity protections,” said a spokesman, “We continue to look at ways to help drivers increase their earnings and our door is always open if anyone wants to speak to us about any issues they’re having.”..

DUBLIN (Reuters) - The Czech Republic joined opposition by Ireland, Finland and Sweden to the European Union’s proposed tax on big internet companies in a joint paper warning that the measures may breach international treaty obligations. EU finance ministers agree that tax rules should be changed to increase levies on digital services and aim to finalize a tax on large firms’ turnover by the end of the year, but are at odds on how to do so. Smaller states with lower tax rates such as Luxembourg and Ireland, which host large American multinationals, want EU changes to come together with a global reform of digital taxation, which has been under discussion for years.

Nordic countries have also urged their partners to shelve the plan for action first at an EU level on concerns over how it may affect their own large digital companies and were joined by the Czechs in the joint paper sent to colleagues last month, “Given the stainless steel striped onyx cufflinks potentially far-reaching political, economic and legal consequences of introducing a tax at EU level that is not in line with tax treaties, it is our view that a discussion is needed on the compatibility of the DST (digital services tax) with international obligations,” they said in the paper, a copy of which was provided on Monday by Ireland’s Finance Ministry..

The four countries said the new tax could necessitate the renegotiation and potentially eventual termination of bilateral tax treaties with third countries and need to make sure all future treaties allow for the imposition of the digital tax. A thorough discussion on the legal consequences of the proposal was needed, they said. Under the European Commission’s proposal in March, EU states would charge a 3 percent levy on digital revenues of large firms like Google and Facebook that are accused of routing their profits to the bloc’s low-tax states.

Prior to joining Hyatt, Grismer held a variety of leadership positions at companies including KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants owner Yum Brands Inc (YUM.N), where he was CFO, He also worked at The Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) in finance and strategy roles over a ten year period, Starbucks said, “We know Mr, Grismer from his time serving as YUM CFO from May 2012-February 2016 stainless steel striped onyx cufflinks and have mixed feelings about his appointment,” Cowen analysts said in a note pointing to Yum’s stagnant stock price during his tenure as CFO..
