“Welcome to a place where we judge no one,” Gaga said. Of course, Gaga is well known for delivering one big shocker per tour. During Monster Ball, she shot flames from her undergarments at a giant fish creature. Then there was the crazy birth scene — where “baby” Gaga appeared from a giant inflatable torso — in the Born This Way Ball. The current tour’s talker comes as Gaga strips to nearly nothing in a costume change right before our eyes. Yet, that wasn’t the evening’s defining moment. That came when Gaga left the special effects behind and simply sat at the piano to perform a stunning solo version of “Born This Way,” accompanied by two audience members.

Imagine a good-looking 30-something man who navy blue wedding shoes - ballet flats, 250 colors, vintage lace, swarovski crystals, belle-women's bridal shoes seemingly has no money problems living in New York City today, surrounded by five married couples in various stages of marital bliss who all love Robert/Bobby/BaBaBaBa so much they have him over for dinner, put on a surprise birthday party for him and the men join forces to sing “Have I Got a Girl for You.”, So idyllic, So syrupy, And sometimes so … boring, Perhaps because the show, currently on stage at Los Altos Stage Company, is more than 40 years old, even its meager premise sounds a bit archaic in 2014, That’s mostly due to George Furth’s book, because the frequently stellar music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim (although the too-cute “Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Bobby” number — repeated incessantly in this production — deserves a quick burial)..

That’s not to say the Los Altos version doesn’t have some redeeming charms. Director Carol Fischer cast the perky dynamo Kristin Walter as commitment-phobic Amy, and the sublime Maureen O’Neill as dimwitted flight attendant April. Walter knocks it out of the park doing her speed-of-sound “(Not) Getting Married Today” solo number, and O’Neill just nails it with a vacant stare, sweet “lights-are-out” smile and oblivious admission that “I can’t get interested in myself.”.

As Robert, the linchpin of the entire play, Adam Cotugno is a puzzle, At times he’s unremarkable and surprisingly bland, yet Cotugno also has scenes where he seems navy blue wedding shoes - ballet flats, 250 colors, vintage lace, swarovski crystals, belle-women's bridal shoes to gleefully accept that he’s the center of his married friends’ world, especially the guys, who envy his single status, yet chide him that he’s missing out on the good things about being a couple (which they describe by singing “Sorry/Grateful”), His solos were rather innocuous as well, Yet Cotugno somewhat redeems himself in his finale solo, the sensitive “Being Alive.” Although he seems like such a nice guy, perhaps — at least in this production — he doesn’t quite have the charisma to carry off the lead role..

There are several other musical highlights from Sondheim’s mostly memorable score. As one of Robert’s three incompatible girlfriends Marta, Sheila Townsend really sells “Another Hundred People” even at the beginning when the sound isn’t loud enough. Then there’s Mary Gibboney, who takes a big bite out of the scenery as the oft-married, acerbic Joanne drunkenly singing that acidic cocktail of a song “The Ladies Who Lunch.” Though the unequaled Elaine Stritch will be forever associated with “Lunch,” Gibboney makes a credible case for second place here.

Several other actors have respectable voices as well (Vanessa Alvarez, Skye Violet Wilson and the vastly under-utilized Michael Rhone), but Scott Stanley should navy blue wedding shoes - ballet flats, 250 colors, vintage lace, swarovski crystals, belle-women's bridal shoes stick to acting and his quite convincing dancing, In fact, when the entire cast comes out wearing a succession of hats (Dr, Seuss, straw, bowler) to dance to Katie O’Bryon’s mostly winning choreography as Act 2 begins, the numbers “Side by Side by Side” and “What Would We Do Without You?” are clearly the best of the evening..

Another big number is the show’s namesake, “Company.” It’s a solid song, though it doesn’t come across as quite “big” enough in this production. (A three-piece band under the direction of Gus Kambeitz plays the score from the back of the stage.). It’s apparent from several current references and props (one heterosexual couple is now a same-sex married twosome, and everyone uses cellphones) that Fischer is following one of the revival scripts rather than the original. Scenic designer Bryan Hornbeck’s simple, multi-level apartment is a soothing blend of blues, grays and soft yellows, and all of Trish Files’ costumes are attractive and topical.

One of the real highlights of this show is Jeff Swan’s lighting, which must change on a dime from full stage to spotlight to soft color and navy blue wedding shoes - ballet flats, 250 colors, vintage lace, swarovski crystals, belle-women's bridal shoes more, It did all that, So, there you have it: An evening of some hits, some misses and some unevenness, As an opportunity to hear one of Sondheim’s most accessible scores (and intelligent, witty writing), “Company” may be a tad slow-paced, but it can still be good company for an evening of theater, After all, it was nominated for a record-breaking 14 Tonys in 1971 (and it won six), That’s a pretty impressive pedigree..
